One of the ways Cancer Council Australia communicates about cancer prevention, early detection and our campaigns and initiatives is social media.

Social media audiences across our key platforms Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, continued to experience growth in 2015-16. Our Facebook page now has over 50,000 likes, up 8000 from 2014-15. Our Twitter following has also grown to 23,000, up from 19,000 at the end of last reporting period.

During the reporting period our CEO, Professor Sanchia Aranda, also created her own Facebook page where she can provide regular updates on Cancer Council’s work

We also have an Instagram page with over 3400 followers.

Key social media highlights included National Skin Cancer Action Week (November 2015), when our video case studies, infographics and imagery were shared over 200 times and reached over 100,000 people.

We also used social media to support our involvement in the Union for International Cancer Control’s World Cancer Day. Our Facebook activity reached more than 73,000 people, generating over 800 ‘shares’ and over 1000 ‘likes’.

During 2015-16 our YouTube channel had over 301,000 views. Videos with the highest traction included our Daffodil Day and Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea campaign videos and others relating to sun protection and Cancer Council’s licensed products.
