Australia's Biggest Morning Tea
Australia's Biggest Morning Tea is Cancer Council's most popular fundraising event. Now in its 23rd year, it remains the largest, most successful event of its kind in Australia.
In 2016, more than a million people across Australia came together to share a morning tea at work, school, home or in the community, raising an amazing $13.8 million to support our work to beat cancer. Funds raised help support Cancer Council's life-saving cancer research, prevention programs and support services for cancer patients and their families.
The official date for Australia's Biggest Morning Tea 2016 was Thursday 26 May, but morning tea fundraisers were held throughout May and June.
Australia's Biggest Morning Tea 2016 was supported by many of Australia’s best-loved celebrity chefs – several of whom have supported the event for several years – including Janelle Bloom, Miguel Maestre, Gary Mehigan, Darren Robertson, Matt Moran and Lyndey Milan. They were joined by long-term ambassador Barry Du Bois.
Our special thanks go to Coles Express (Primary Partner) and Jura (Supporting Partner) who were both new partners to Australia's Biggest Morning Tea in 2016. Long-term Daffodil Day partner Coles Express extended their support to Australia's Biggest Morning Tea for the first time in 2016. Funds raised totalled well over their target of $170,000, reaching more than $250,000. This was achieved through the sale of merchandise (including co-branded travel mugs and tea towels), in store cause-related marketing through their suppliers (10c/unit sold donated from Coles Coffee, Nescafe and Lipton Tea) and staff donations.
Jura donated $50 for each unit sold throughout April and May, with distribution through outlets including David Jones, Harvey Norman and The Good Guys. Another great success of this partnership was media coverage generated through a bloggers event held in Sydney on Friday 29 April.
Cancer Council’s national workplace giving partners were also encouraged to register and participate in Australia's Biggest Morning Tea, and raised over $22,000.
