Funding of Cancer Council Australia’s activities comes mainly through subscriptions paid by its members, the eight state and territory Cancer Councils.

Membership subscriptions of $8.4 million were 2.4% lower than the previous financial year and were distributed across various projects within the organisation.

Fundraising and partnerships

Cancer Council Australia earns income on behalf of its members, the eight state and territory Cancer Councils, which is returned to them to help fund their education, research and patient support programs.

A significant proportion of Cancer Council Australia fundraising comes from corporate partnerships, including support for our national fundraising events, such as Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, Daffodil Day and Girls' Night In, cause-related marketing where a percentage of product sales is donated to Cancer Council, and our workplace giving program. We also receive bequests and general donations, which are returned to our members.

The first graph below illustrates movements in the income earned for our members over the past four years. Income across all categories has decreased over the past financial year by 33%, mainly due to the decrease of $6.5 million in bequests received.
