Biggest Morning Tea 2017

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea has been one of Australia’s favourite fundraising events for nearly a quarter of a century We will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2018.

The event brings together communities, families and workmates in the simple act of enjoying morning tea together while raising funds to support our vital work in cancer research, prevention, support and advocacy. Australians also show their support by purchasing branded merchandise, which this year included mugs, tea towels and aprons.

Every year, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea falls on the fourth Thursday in May. The official date in 2017 was 25 May, but community morning tea fundraisers were held throughout May and June. More than 28,500 Australians hosted or joined in morning teas across the country, raising an amazing $13.7 million.

One of our largest morning teas was hosted this year on 19 May, when Shaw and Partners and Goodman Group, with the support of Dexus, hosted their first ‘Community Biggest Morning Tea’ for all tenants of 60 Castlereagh Street, Sydney. This morning tea event raised $55,269 for Cancer Council.

Our corporate and workplace giving partners showed their support for Cancer Council again this year, hosting hundreds of morning teas across the country in 2017. We are also grateful to our event supporters Twinings, Salt & Pepper, Thermomix and DoubleTree by Hilton, who helped boost funds raised by donating prizes and encouraging involvement in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.

Many of Australia’s best-loved celebrity chefs and personalities have supported Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea for several years, including Miguel Maestre, Gary Mehigan, Darren Purchese, Shannon Ponton, Lyndey Milan and Barry Du Bois. Our thanks go to each of them for their ongoing support.
