Welcome to Cancer Council Australia’s Annual Review. This report covers our performance for the 2010/11 financial year across all areas of our organisation.

It has been a busy and productive year. As we celebrated our 50th year of operation, we continued our efforts to reduce the burden of cancer in Australia, through our research, prevention, advocacy and support activities.

Cancer Councils collectively funded more than $50 million of research, undertook a range of campaigns and activities to raise and awareness of cancer and educate Australians about preventing cancer, and received more than 100,000 calls for information and support through Cancer Council Helpline. We also continued to advocate for policy change to reduce the impact of cancer, through campaigns like Get Behind Bowel Screening.

Cancer Council has been increasing the amount of information we put online through our websites and social media channels, to make it more widely available and accessible, provide timely updates and reduce the environmental impacts of printing. This is the third year we have produced our Annual Review online, as well as our journal Cancer Forum.

We have had amazing support from the community and our stakeholders, with our biggest fundraising event, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, raising more than $11 million. On behalf of our members – the state and territory Cancer Councils – Cancer Council Australia earned more than $7.2 million through donations, corporate partnerships and royalties from our sun protection products.
